Curse of the Crimson Throne
Fishcake seller in High Bridge, mother of Bowie
Hattie is a middle-aged lady, once dark hair turned grey, who runs a fishcake shop in High Bridge. It is not ‘the best" as her son Bowie refers to it, nor is it “the worst” as her daughter and only employee Fuchsia refers to it, but it is cheap and it is well-used by the longshoremen and sailors in the area. She wakes very early to begin preparing them, often even earlier than her husband Bren who leaves before dawn to fish. The labor keeps her in good shape and her arms and hands have a good grip. She passes the time with the myriad of visitors and gossips who come by to chat with her. Hattie seems to know what’s going on in everybody’s business, a trait both her children have taken up as well, one enthusiastically and one with constantly rolling eyes and snide commentary. She has always tried to do well by her children, giving Bowie little Cayden Cailean knicknacks when she could afford them and making sure that Fuchsia always had a little ribbon for her hair. But now that they are older, she isn’t sure what to do with them. She worries Bowie will get himself into some kind of trouble with the law or worse by visiting the rough neighborhoods of Korvosa. And Fuchsia just seems to rebel against everything including with this boyfriend Jagov, though secretly she wonders if the tiefling is merely a construct of her daughter.
